The backside of the medal.

People often ask me if winning the Belgian Photographer of the Year 2026 award has opened new opportunities.
At first, everyone, including my clients, were happy for me. Heartwarming! Then everything went quiet. No extra jobs followed.
Grateful as I was for the recognition, I had hoped for something unexpected, a surprise opportunity to come my way. I’m still waiting for that moment.
Even when we achieve success in this profession, we face an uphill battle in the creative industry. The effort and sacrifices we make aren’t always acknowledged or valued. The unseen realities of a creative career. Yet we keep going, day after day.
Charles Bukowski put it perfectly:
“If you’re going to try, go all the way.”
It’s such a privilege to do this incredible job for so long. A true blessing. Over the years, I’ve seen things that money can’t buy, the places I’ve discovered through my work, the joy of doing what I love with great people. The best job in the world.
Now, I aim to stay humble and share my knowledge. Last week, I did just that with a wonderful group of photography professionals.
This image came to life when I was asked to lead a workshop for fellow photographers eager to learn about my approach and process.
A talented friend, Bart Lenaerts, recently released a photo book, and that inspired me to create this image as a way to promote his work. View the book HERE
The ten workshop participants also had the freedom to create their own images.
What a fantastic experiment: 11 photographers, 11 ideas, 11 unique photographs.
The images will be displayed during the book launch.
